Judy Kay Porch was born May 22, 1941, in Gordon, Nebraska, to Fred and Josephine (Petrik) Williams. Judy shared her birthday with twin sister Joyce Franzen. Older sister Iris McCue was delighted to have two babies to play with instead of just one.

Her dad, Fred passed away in 1958 and the family moved to Martin. She attended Martin Grade School and graduated from Bennett County High School in 1959.
