Lori McCormick

Lori K. (Fossum) McCormick, 46, of Salem passed away at her home under hospice care surrounded by her family on Friday, February 9, 2024. Funeral services will begin at 10 am on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the McCook Central Auditorium. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday also at the auditorium.  Please use the east doors to enter the auditorium.

Lori K. Fossum was born December 7, 1977 in Sioux Falls to Arlyn and Joann (Ramstad) Fossum. She grew up in Canton and attended Canton Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. Lori graduated from Canton High School and went on to Augustana in Sioux Falls where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health. While attending Augustana College, she played volleyball as a middle hitter and had a wonderful career, earning 2nd team All-American honors and Runner Up National Champion in 2000. On July 28, 2001 Lori married Matthew McCormick at Canton Lutheran Church.

Lori was very active in athletics all throughout high school, college, and continuing with her children as well. After playing collegiate volleyball at Augustana College, she then went on to coach volleyball for Sioux Falls Roosevelt, taking them to the Class AA State Tournament multiple years. Lori then went on to raise her four children at home, and continued work at McCormick Motors as a bookkeeper.

She is survived by her husband, Matt and their children, Michaela, Zane, Burke, and Coy all of Salem; her parents, Arlyn and Joann Fossum of Canton; her siblings, Shelly Fossum of Sioux Falls, Jennifer (Brian) Qualseth and Brian (Stephanie) Fossum both of Canton; her mother-in-law, Kay McCormick of Salem; her sister-in-law, Katie (Chris) Jibben of Sioux Falls; nieces and nephews, Crayton and Paige Jibben, Brayden, Lakynn and Breckyn Qualseth, and Larissa, Elizabeth and Grace Fossum; and several aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ernest and Mildred Fossum and Oscar and Annetta Ramstad and her father-in-law, Mike McCormick.
