Rosalind Jean (Kammerer) McPherson was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on April 11th, 1928, to Ernest and Margaret (McNenny) Kammerer. She was the last baby born in St. Johns house before they moved into the new St. Johnson hospital in Rapid City. She attended country school in Meade County from 1st – 8th grade, where she would ride two miles horseback to attend. She then attended four years of high school in Rapid City.
Rosalind taught country school for two years before being married to Glenn McPherson on April 14th, 1948. They lived together on their working cattle ranch north of Rapid City with their two boys Jay and Terry McPherson. After Glenn passed in 2001, Rosalind continued to live on the ranch for many years before passing away peacefully in the Good Samaritan Society in New Underwood, SD on February 5th, 2025.
Glenn and Rosalind were highly involved with the South Dakota State High School Rodeo for numerous years when it was held in New Underwood. They also used to enjoy their annual trips to Las Vegas where they would snowbird during the winter months. Up until Rosalind’s passing, she still enjoyed her occasional daily getaways to Deadwood. She was known for making the best candy caramels, and was also labeled the snake killer, as she was still killing those pests passing through her yard, up into her 90’s.
Rosalind was a very giving person, so naturally she enjoyed the holidays with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved shopping for the kids and enjoyed going out to eat as a family, or gathering together in the beautiful home her and Glenn built. Their home is still a place where family and friends gather for big meals, especially during the holidays.
She always opened up her home to anyone passing through for rodeos, or whatever occasion it may be. She was the type of woman that always made sure you had a safe and warm place to stay. Not very many people can say they grew up and lived on the same ranch for 94 years, but Rosalind can, and she was very proud of that.
She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn McPherson, parents Ernest and Margaret Kammerer and her twin brothers that passed at birth. She is survived by her son’s Jay McPherson and Terry (Deb) McPherson; granddaughters Alison McPherson and Kelsie (Cole) Stevenson, Misty (Jade) Blackwell; her grandsons Michael (Maegan) McPherson and Marty McPherson; her great-grandchildren Cash, Midori, and Macy McPherson and Bexley Blackwell.
Visitation services will be 5:00 PM Sunday, February 16th, 2025, at West River Funeral Directors – 420 East Saint Patrick Street – Suite 106 – Rapid City, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 17th, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church – 106 South A Street – New Underwood, SD, and services will be livestreamed at the Catholic Hall with a meal to follow.
The family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to the Good Samaritan Society for taking such great care of Rosalind for the last couple of years.
